Overview of the New Employment Permit Portal in Ireland

Ireland’s new Employment Permits Online system went live on 28 April 2025, replacing the old online system. The old system was taken offline from 17 April 2025 for the changeover, and draft applications that hadn’t been submitted were not carried across.

What’s new

• Personal portal accounts. Employers, employees and agents each have their own account, so applications and their status are easier to track.
• A guided application process, step by step, designed to reduce mistakes.
• Stronger security, with multi-factor authentication on every account.
• Joint applications. Employers and employees each complete their own part online, and an agent can act for either side.
• Status tracking. Current and past applications are visible in the account, with their status (draft, processing, issued).
• No more Trusted Partner scheme. Instead, every employer registers an account with its Revenue and CRO details, which the Employment Permits Unit checks before granting access.

Registering

Each user registers with an email address and password and sets up two-factor authentication. Employers also upload their Revenue and CRO details for validation. The email address used to register becomes the account’s administrator, and more users can be added.
